24/7 on-site service and repair

We know how OEMs design to prevent problems, such as bearing wear and rotor cooling, and how to resolve them in the field. IPS incorporates best practices from the leading turbine generator OEMs into everything we do.

IPS partners with turbine specialists to provide turnkey service and repair solutions. If we’re working within a planned outage, we recommend comprehensive testing to establish a baseline and guide service recommendations.

Our field services for salient pole and turbine generators include:

  • Disassembly, inspection & evaluation
  • Non-destructive assessment of components
  • Insulation electrical testing
  • Vibration analysis
  • Dynamic balancing
  • Laser alignment
  • EL CID testing
  • Digital wedge tightness test
  • Repetitive surge oscilloscope (RSO) testing
  • Insulation resistance test

On-site repair for rotors, stators, and exciters

IPS repairs and overhauls large utility turbine generator rotors, stators, and exciters. We build temporary clean rooms in situ to prevent airborne contamination and provide climate control during rewinds.

Our repairs for generator stators include:

  • Partial and complete rewinds
  • Core restacking
  • Re-wedging
  • End turn repairs
  • Bar abrasion repairs
  • Bolt inspection/tightening
  • High-voltage bushing changeout
  • Flux probe installation

Our repairs for generator rotors include:

  • Retaining ring removal
  • Partial and complete rewinds
  • Collector ring repair and replacement
  • Main lead replacement
  • Copper distortion repair
  • New rotor windings
  • Wedge replacement

IPS also provides full rewinds for exciters. Our technicians have the equipment to keep more work on-site, such as heat-treating retaining rings and complex machining.

Experienced engineering and proven rewinds

Our large utility generator experts lead the IPS response to your service and repair requirements. We’ve worked on various multipole and turbo generators from the industry’s leading OEMs:

  • Alstom
  • AEG
  • AVK
  • General Electric
  • Hitachi
  • Leroy Somer
  • Mitsubishi
  • Siemens
  • WEG
  • Westinghouse

IPS redesigns and retrofits legacy generators, increasing insulation class or redesigning for higher kW output. When blueprints are unavailable, we disassemble old generators, reverse engineer, then design, manufacture, and install new components.

Our B-stage hard coil rewinds combine the advantage of more advanced materials and custom manufacturing in limited volumes. IPS engineers and builds coils to spec, shipping semi-treated B-stage coils for curing on-site.

Customized power distribution solutions

Custom Equipment (CE) offers engineering, manufacturing, and fabrication for customized power distribution solutions. This includes motor control centers, medium- and low-voltage switchgear, transformers, and substations.

IPS offers customized VFD solutions

IPS packages VFDs for harsh-duty applications. We couple units with permanent magnet motors and driven equipment — fans, pumps, and compressors.

Our VFD recommendations typically produce energy savings that pay for the equipment within a year. IPS has massive VFD inventories across North America, plus peripheral options for specific applications:

  • NEMA 1 conduit adapters
  • Line and load reactors
  • Dynamic braking resistors
